Long Ashton school crisis

Lots of children, no school places. We need the council to listen to us now!

Sorry to hear that Daniel is not well. They are brilliant at the childrens hosp, it seems quite a few of us have eneded up there at least once, Eliza with a temp at 2 weeks! Let us know when you are back in circulation, are work ok? Just your luck with starting a new job and all.
Love Heather x

Hi Katie,

Just saw your message to Heather on the blog and wanted to send you my very best wishes. Henry ended up in hospital with pneumonia when he was 9 months old - it was a horribly distressing experience and I can understand what you must be going through. Unfortunately 'getting over' pneumonia can take quite a while but from my experience, once a diagnosis is made, the worst is over.

Let me know if I can be of any help.

Best wishes,

Hannah

Oh dear, sorry, I hope he gets better soon! No, I was only asking if he was at apple tree, as I thought I recognized him from the photo!
Definitely be good to talk about media etc once he is better- just let me know, and in the meantime, best wishes.

i was wondering if everything was okay as i haven't seen you this week.

Gosh - that must have given you a wee fright but i'm sure he'll be bouncing back into action soon! My best friend's son also had that last year - he was quite a bit younger though and he was fine. He had a few rough colds and they decided to pop him to the hosiptal for a few days - absolutely the best place for them. if i can be of any help at all or if you want to pop round for a cuppa and a natter feel free - my mobile is 0797 113 1342 x

Hey Katie! Joni here - managed to get a mugshot of me and Isobella on my profile - it's the only one i had on my computer though but better than nothing! If i dont see you on the bus home have a good easter!
P.S - think this website will be a tremendous success with all the parents getting to know each other and find a sort of community spirit! Hope it provides a good foundation to protest our grumbles about the schooling issue!

Where do you live?
In Long Ashton
About Me:
I moved to the village about a year ago and I live in one of the new Wimpey houses, but I never dreamt it would not be possible for my son Daniel to attend his local primary school. I imagined the additional school places required by the new development would have been factored into local planning. I fully support the schools campaign and will help out where I can (work permitting as I'm currently working fulltime). I love living in Long Ashton; I only hope my son can go to school here

Government Planning Bill - Section 106 to be abolished

I've found out from my contact in the Houses of Parliament that a Planning Bill is currently going through parliament which will abolish section 106. The Bill is proposing a different system for assessing how developers contribute to local communities. It's likely the new Planning Bill will put less pressure on developers than at present, so the local council's view that they want to wait until the 9,000 houses are built in order to get more money from developers is not really valid. They may be… Continue

A view from central government...

I contacted a friend of a friend who works as a Civil Servant in the Houses of Parliament re the LA schools situation to see whether she thinks this is something Central Government will be interested in. She believes the Government Education Department will view this as a local issue to be resolved by N Somerset Council and will not be interested in taking this forward.

Interestingly enough she said they had a similar situation in her area (Crouch End, North London) a few years ago which was ev… Continue

N Somerset Council Scrutiny Report

I've just read the N Somerset Council Scrutiny Report posted by Hannah on 25 April and two things stand out to me:

1. Council are stating that they do not want to take action to affect the 'rural setting' of Birdwell School by implementing 'city solutions' such as all weather playing pitch (which would then allow them to build another classroom). This seems somewhat ridiculous given the longer term plans to build 9,000 houses in the Long Ashton area and effectively join Bristol to Long Ashton a… Continue
