Sibling Link – The Adjudicator’s Determination
Thank you to everyone who supported our objection to the Council’s amendment to the Sibling Link rule. We had a great response from you all but unfortunately not such a great response from the Adjudicator.
We actually received the Adjudicator’s decision last week and I apologise for not updating you sooner – I think we were all just a bit too depressed.
As you will have gathered, we were unsuccessful in getting an amendment. If you want to read up on his reasoning please click the link (determination.doc). It would seem that our objections (although based on the school admissions code) were not applicable in these circumstances. The Adjudicator was kind enough to set out grounds which could be considered – may be one to look at next year as he has made his decision binding for one year only.
For myself, this is the end of the road. After 6 months’ of struggling, too many letters and emails to count, 3 school appeals, a complaint to the Local Government Ombudsman, an objection to the School’s Adjudicator and a transport appeal (all of which have failed), I finally have to admit defeat. We are therefore throwing our energies into moving to Backwell so that we can be certain that Ollie will be admitted to the same school as his brother. If anyone knows of somebody who wants a beautiful family house at the top of Providence but with no requirements for a local school place, please put them on to me!
I was sent an obituary from the London Times today – a pretty good reflection of the current ridiculous situation. I hope it makes you smile too! Common Sense.doc
